Loft Insulation

If your loft does not have at least 270mm (10”) of insulation it almost certainly does not comply with current building standards. Upgrading an inadequately insulated loft is one of the most cost effective ways of improving your property.

" As much as 25% of a property’s heat could be wasted through a poorly insulated loft "

Loft insulation can easily be upgraded, making your house warmer and more comfortable. You will lose less heat and save money on your heating bills.

Loft insulation provides the following benefits:

  • Cuts the amount of energy used in heating the home.
  • Improves the comfort of your home.
  • Reduces, or eliminates, condensation from appearing on ceilings.
  • Protects against mould growth.
  • Aids the environment.

The Insulation Process.

Rolls of mineral fibre insulation are laid between the joists, and in some cases cross laid, to cover the entire loft space. A ventilation gap is usually left at the perimeter of the loft to maintain airflow and prevent condensation within the loft. The insulation to the tanks and pipes is also upgraded to comply with current standards and an area around the loft access is boarded to provide a safe platform.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

As part of its “Carbon Emissions Reduction Target" (CERT) the Government instructed fuel suppliers to offer insulation grants to homeowners to reduce energy use in the home. Like the generous grants for Solar PV which were recently withdrawn, the CERT grants for Solid Wall Insulation, Cavity Wall Insulation and Loft Insulation are set to end in the very near future.
